Fans try again to save CBS show 'Jericho'

By The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Eric (Kenneth Mitchell) and Jake (Skeet Ulrich) appear in in the television show "Jericho" in this photo released by CBS.

The plug has been pulled, the monitors have flatlined, but the faithful refuse to let them take the body away, writes Michael Storey in Tuesday's Style section. He's talking about "Jericho," the resurrected CBS post-apocalyptic drama that failed to show signs of life when brought back from the dead for seven episodes last season.

The network pulled the plug a second time. But the few, the proud, the "Jericho" fans are praying for a second miracle.

There continues to be an effort by the hard-core "Jericho Rangers" (that's what they call themselves) to get CBS to shop the series to another network. Maybe a niche cable network where the show will be appreciated and not so much at the mercy of the cold, cruel Nielsen ratings.

These same fans got CBS to renew the canceled program the first time by inundating the network with peanuts. "Nuts" was the embattled Jericho, Kan., citizens' rallying cry, echoing an American general's famous reply in World War II at the Battle of Bastogne when he was called on to surrender by the Germans. Twenty tons of peanuts poured in and CBS blinked. Will the network blink again?
