Classical pianist to perform at Harding
ADVERSTISMENT
SEARCY- World-renowned pianist Teresa Walters will perform a concert in Harding University's Administration Auditorium at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, as part of the 2007-2008 Classical Lyceum Series.
Her scheduled repertoire features pieces by various European composers from Germany, Italy, France, Hungary and Russia.
She will play works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Ferruccio Busoni, Sergei Rachmanioff, Lili Boulanger and selections from her specialty - music by Franz Liszt. Before playing each composition, she will speak briefly about the music.
Walters is known for her commitment to music as the ultimate universal. She is equally at home in the world's major concert halls or in campus and community settings.
In recent years, Walters has performed as a recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 United States. Her performances in venues such as New York's Carnegie Hall, London's Wigmore Hall, the Salle Cortot in Paris and the Great Hall of Moscow attest to her international fame.
Walters was the first American pianist invited by Hungary to perform three prestigious European recitals honoring the anniversary of composer Franz Liszt's birthday. Her Liszt recordings have received nominations for the Grand Prix du Disque of the Hungarian Liszt Society.
The Classical Lyceum Series is a program that exposes students to performing groups and fine arts exhibits by bringing them to campus. Walter's concert concludes the series for 2007-2008.
Walter's concert is open to the public. General admission tickets may be purchased at the door for $2. For more information, call the Department of Music at (501) 279-4343.
