UPDATE: Villines, Hays stay in office

In three races where incumbents faced strong challenges from rivals, it looks as though all three will manage to stay in office.

Democrat Buddy Villines was able to defeat Republican Phil Wyrick to hold onto the his post as Pulaski County judge.

Wit 91 percent of precincts in Pulaski County reporting, Villines captured 58.31 percent of the vote to Wyrick's 41.69 percent.

North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays, 61, trumped a field of three opponents. His closest challenger was businessman Bubba Lloyd, 47.

Bill Laman, 66, a retired bond securities salesman, and Michelle McLelland, 37, an underwriting analyst, also ran.

Hays grabbed 55.69 percent of the vote, with Lloyd trailing at 36.83 percent.

Republican state Sen. Gilbert Baker won his race against Democratic challenger Joe White late Tuesday in the most expensive race in Arkansas legislative history.

The Senate District 30 seat in Faulkner County pays $15,362, but about $800,000 was spent on the two campaigns.
