— The Plainview-Rover Student Council is made up of 12 students ranging from ninth grade through 12th grade. These special few are selected to represent the school and are expected to keep at least a 3.0 grade-point average to stay in the club. They are representatives of the student body who are in charge of certain events and dates to keep them student-approved. This year, they are in charge of Red Ribbon Week and Prom Promise Week. So far, they have decorated their school float for the Yell County Fair Parade that was held in Danville in September.

One of the main duties of the Student Council is to help spread the word about being drug and alcohol free. During both Red Ribbon andProm Promise Week, they schedule special events in the school to encourage the students to be responsible.

During Red Ribbon Week in October, Student Council scheduled different dress-up days for each day of the week, as well as special speakers and short films on the dangers of drug use for different age groups. They prepared a skit for the entire school to enjoy while still sending an embraceable message on the use and abuse of drugs. Student Council gave each student a Red Ribbon and they were to wear them all week, and a child will be chosen at random each day. This gives the students a competitive taste of the week because if they are chosen and are wearing their ribbon, they win a prize.

The Student Council members worked exceptionally hard for weeks, with a great outcome, on Red Ribbon Week, which began Oct. 20. They will strive to be just as successful in the spring for Prom Promise Week.

These students believe in being drug free and hope the week will show the entire school how the best choice in one's life is to keep away from harmful substances and drugs.

Student Council members aren't just advocates for living a responsible life, they also deal with matters that are important to the rest of the student body. They are asked their opinions on what foods are served in the cafeteria and rules that go into the handbook. They are the link that connects the students and the administration. If any of the students feel there is something that needs to be done or changed in the school, they come to the Student Council members who see to it that the problem is fixed.

The members of Student Council are responsible for many things that go on at Plainview-Rover High School. They all work hard and have a passion for what they do. Helping the other students of the school make responsible decisions in their lives, as well as keeping special events funfilled and educational at the same time, is what Student Council loves to do. They will keep doing their part in the school for as long as they are fortunate enough to remain part of the club.
