Salvation Army provides aid for Gustav evacuees

BENTON - The Salvation Army is feeding Hurricane Gustav evacuees in 12 hotels in the Benton and Bryant area.

On Monday, the Salvation Army fed 653 people and it is in need of volunteers to help deliver the meals for the next several days. Anyone can volunteer during any time of day by cooking, delivering food and making phone calls.

Meals for the evacuees are being cooked in the federal building, across from the court house, in Benton. Delivery starts at 6 p.m. and goes until all the food is delivered.

Due to all the meals served and expected to be served, the Salvation Army is in need of financial donations to help buy the food that is being prepared and distributed. Take donations to their location at 129 N. Main St. in Benton or mail them to The Salvation Army P.O. Box 1250 Benton, AR 72018.

The Salvation Army is also providing shelter to any evacuees that are in need.
