Banks found guilty in shooting death of 6-year-old

A Pulaski County Court jury took about 40 minutes Friday to find a Little Rock man guilty of capital murder in the

December shooting death of a 6-year-old girl.

Kevin Banks, 18, was convicted of one count of capital murder and four counts of committing a terroristic act. Banks and two co-defendants were charged with shooting into a house with four people inside, including Kamya Weathersby, 6, who died after being hit seven times.

Banks' co-defendants, Ricky Dale Smith, 20, and Marqus Tyrell Smith, 18, will face trial in November and January, respectively.

Banks was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

As he was led out of court following the verdict, Banks said, "I'll be back."

He faces a first-degree murder trial in November in connection with the shooting death of a 25-year-old Little Rock man nine days before Kamya's death.

The three men are accused of opening fire on the girl's home on the morning of Dec. 29, killing Kamya and wounding her 3-year-old sister Jasirae Vick.

One hundred thirty-two live rounds of ammunition were found in the Little Rock home where the girls were in bed watching TV. Prosecutors said the intended target in the house that night was Antoine Demetrius "Turtle" Jones, the boyfriend of the girls' mother.
