Arrest made in Jacksonville case

Police have arrested a Jacksonville man on murder charges in connection with human remains found in a wooded area off Corey Lane on Wednesday.

George Alan Smith, 33, of Jacksonville was arrested late Thursday and charged with capital murder. A statement from the Jacksonville Police Department said the arrest was made "as a result of information received and the ongoing investigation..."

The remains were found after an unidentified man in custody in Faulkner County led authorities to the site, as well as a second site about six miles away just outside of Jacksonville. No remains were found at the second site and Pulaski County authorities suspended their search of the area Thursday afternoon.

Faulkner County Sheriff Karl Byrd said Thursday the case could involve as many as 15 bodies in Arkansas and two other states.
