Swifton student receives Newport scholarship

— Gunner Smart of Swifton has been awarded the Academic Freshman Scholarship for the fall 2009 semester at Arkansas State University-Newport.

He is the son of Glenn and Kathy Smart. Gunner is scheduled to graduate in May 2009 from Tuckerman High School. His major will be in computer information systems.

The Academic Freshman Scholarship is awarded to firsttime college students who have achieved a composite score of at least 24 on the Enhanced American College Test. The scholarship pays full tuition for students who are enrolled full time and maintain a 3.0 grade-point average the first semester of study and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 for the following two semesters.
