— Hendrix's choir sings 'Hallelujah !'

The Hendrix College Choir will sing "Hallelujah!" at 7:30 p.m. today in Greene Chapel at Hendrix, 1600 Washington Ave., Conway. Nancy Fleming will conduct the choir in "All That Hath Life and Breath, Praise Ye the Lord!" by Rene Clausen; Sicut cer vus by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina; Lobet den Herrn by Johann Sebastian Bach; "The Heavens Are Telling" from The Creation by Franz Joseph Haydn; Rejoice in the Lamb by Benjamin Britten; and "O Clap Your Hands" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. LR church hosts Monticello singers

Christ Episcopal Church, 509 Scott St., Little Rock, hosts the University of Arkansas at Monticello Chamber Choir for a concert at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Chamber Choir, 17 undergraduate singers selected by audition, will perform works by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Igor Stravinsky and Jacques Offenbach. Kent Skinner conducts; pianist Paul Becker is the accompanist.

The ensemble is headed to Knoxville, Tenn., to participate in a Rossini Festival, sponsored by the Knoxville Opera. Admission is free. Call (501) 375-2342.

'Old,' 'new' pieces on UCA program

The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble will give a concert called "Something Old, Something New," concert at 7:30 p.m. today in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

The program will include Machu Picchu - City in the Sky by Satoshi Yagisawa; J'ai ete au bal (I Went to the Dance) by Donald Grantham; Handel inthe Strand by Percy Grainger; Bitter for Sweet by John Chorbajian, a choral work transcribed for wind band by Daniel Cooper, band director at Waldron Middle School; and Cathedrals by Kathryn Salfelder.

The Ursa Aura Chamber Winds will perform the Serenade in E-flat major, op.7, by Richard Strauss.

Ricky Brooks will conduct.

Jazz legend sets UALR workshop

Jazz legend Bill Huntington will offer a clinic/workshop at 7 p.m. today in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave.

In 1960, Down Beat magazine described Huntington as "the recapitulation of the history of jazz itself."

He began playing banjo at an early age, switched to guitar at 16 and in the '70s switched again to bass, backing Carmen McCrae, Helen O'Connell, Mel Torme, Cannonball Adderly, Woody Shaw, Herb Ellis, Herbie Hancock and manyothers.

Huntington has recorded with Ellis Marsalis, Bennie Wallace, Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Mose Allison and Banu Gibson.

Formerly of New Orleans, he was on tour in Europe when Hurricane Katrina hit and now lives in Hot Springs Village.

Sponsoring the workshop is the UALR Student Guitar Society and the Office of Campus Life and Student Activity Fee.
