LITTLE ROCK The 2009 Small Works on Paper statewide touring exhibition, which features Tri-Lakes artists, is on display at the Arkansas Studies Institute in Little Rock through Sunday, Aug. 15.
Dolores Justus of Hot Springs is among five artists selected to receive a purchase award, which range from $300 to $700. Her work chosen for the award is an acrylic, Driving Rain. She has a second piece in the show as well, an acrylic, Spring in the City.
Other artists from the Tri-Lakes area with work in the exhibit include Donnie Copeland of Arkadelphia with an acrylic, charcoal and paper work, Stria 31b ; Marlene Gremillion of Hot Springs, with a watercolor, Relaxing on the Bayou; DianneRoberts of Benton with a pastel, Pins and Needles; and Gary Simmons of Hot Springs with a charcoal, Lovin' the Moment.
Admission to view the exhibition is free and hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
The Small Works on Paper exhibition is presented annually by the Arkansas Arts Council. Now in its 22nd year, Small Works on Paper showcases up to 40 small-sized visual works (no larger than 24-by-24 inches) by Arkansas artists in a yearlong traveling show throughout the state.
More than 300 entries were submitted for this year's exhibition, which was juried by Edwin Pinkston, professor emeritus at the Louisiana Tech University School of Art. Pinkston also selected the pieces for purchase awards. Purchase awards represent the cash amount equivalent to the value of the selected works and the awards are funded by entry fees. Pieces selected for purchase awards become part of the exhibition's permanent collection.
The Arkansas Studies Institute, a joint project of the Central Arkansas Library System and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, is located at 401 President Clinton Ave.
