LILLIAN CHRISTINE BAUCOM, 93, of Little Rock, recently of El Dorado, went to be with her Lord and with her husband Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church, Little Rock, and more recently, was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, El Dorado. She was retired from the State Education Department. Christine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Baucom; stepson, Horace Baucom; son-in-law, George Michael Knestrict; one brother and one sister.

She is survived by three daughters, Annette Dumas and her husband Leonard of El Dorado, Shirley Fortner and her husband Harold of Lenexa, Kan., and Raymia Knestrict of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Anne Williams and her husband Perry of Calion, Michael Tygart and his wife Janell of Little Rock, David Tygart of North Little Rock, Michelle Vogt and her husband Jeff of Olathe, Kan., Eric Fortner and hiswife Lisa of Gardner, Kan.; seven great-grandchildren; six greatgreat-grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, (501) 224-8300, with Reverend Marion Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park, Conway, Ark.

ARKADELPHIA - Ann Strickland Vining, 76, of Arkadelphia went to be with the Lord peacefully earlyFriday morning, Aug. 21, 2009, with her husband and six children at her bedside. She was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Nashville, Ark., to the late Charles and Mary Strickland.

After graduating from Arkadelphia High School sheattended Ouachita Baptist University where she met and married her sweetheart for life, Billy Coleman Vining, of Eudora, Ark. They wouldhave been married for 60 years this Christmas Eve. She is survived by six children: Charlotte Vining Douglas of Alma, Ark.; Billy Vining Jr. of Hot Springs, Ark.; Amanda Vining Morgan of Hot Springs, Ark.; Andy Vining of Marshall, Ark.; Molly Vining Wallace of Arkadelphia; Lon Vining of Montreal, Canada; and the late Polly Ann Vining. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Strickland of Kodiak, Alaska, and a sister, Charlotte Strickland Hunter of Arkadelphia. Ann, lovingly called Nana, is survived by 21 adoring grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Strickland Wasson of Springdale; sister-in-law, Sarah Strickland of Arkadelphia; and brother-in-law, Kendall Hunter of Arkadelphia.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia for 55 years where she worked with youth, missions, was a soloist and part of the choir, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of PEO. She was OBU basketball's "team Mom" from 1954-1989, assisting her husband who coached the Tigers. She achieved some fame through being the Ouachita Homecoming Queen who was "kidnapped" for three days by the opposing Henderson team in November 1950. Those who knew her well knew that her door was always open, there was coffee in the coffee pot, and there was an extra plate at the table.

Visitation will be at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Arkadelphia. The family will hold a private graveside burial after the funeral to celebrate her life in the Lord.

Pallbearers are the oldest grandsons from each of her children's families: Cole Douglas, Matt Vining, Tyler Morgan, Drew Vining, Will Wallace and Kaleb Vining. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Justin Vining, Mark Vining, Shane Morgan, Nate Wallace, Josh Wallace, Noah Vining and Isaiah Vining. BENTON - William N. Looney, 80, of Benton died Aug. 20, 2009, at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House in Bryant. He was born on April 3, 1929, to the late Cecil P. and Dovie (Aldridge) Looney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bennie Sue. Mr. Looney was a banker and loan officer for Worthen Bank and served in the National Guard.

Survivors include four sons, Jack (Debbie) Looney of Conway, Jim (Shelia) Looney of Alexander, Garry (Cindy) Looney of Benton and Terry (Becky) Looney of Benton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, A.C. (Barbara) Looney of Bossier City, La.

CONWAY - Pearl Mae Pearce, 79, of Conway went to be with theLord Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. She was born Jan. 17, 1930, in Mayflower to the late Charles Wesley James and Minnie Lee Andrews James. She was the widow of Elmer Ray Pearce. She was a retired factory worker for30 years for Westinghouse and amember of the Conway United Pentecostal Church for 34 years.

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Larry Pearce and his wife Jessie of Conway, and Dr. Jimmy R. Pearce and his wife Becky of Rockwall, Texas; four sisters, Mary Metzger of Clinton, Dean Ellis of Little Rock, Jo Reiathbaum of Conway and Martha Whitlock of Beebe; 12 grandchildren, Jimmy R. Pearce Jr. and wife Deborah of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Carla Griffin and husband Joe of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mark A. Pearce of Dallas, Texas, Shelley Runyan and husband Darrell of Fort Smith, Kelley Thomas and husband Barry of Conway, Bradley Helton and wife Leah of Fort Rucker, Ala., Timothy Pearce and wife Michelle of Llano, Texas, Justin C. Helton and wife Teresa of Conway, Aaron M. Pearce and wife Brittney of Nashville, Tenn., Jonathan M. Pearce of Rockwall, Texas, Jeffery A. DUMAS - Mrs. Nettie Ruth Ward, 76, of Dumas, Ark., born on June 21, 1933 in Ruleville, Miss., the daughter of the late Henry and Julia White. A homemaker, loving mother and member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, she died August 21, 2009 in Dumas, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Verlon "Red" Ward, and her parents.

Survivors are her son, Wayne Ward of Dumas, Ark.; and two daughters, Julia (J.R.) Speegle of Dumas, Ark., and Janet (Shawn) Penn of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two brothers, James White of Freeport, Texas, and Jesse White of Freeport, Texas; two sisters, Marie Watson of Arkansas City, Ark., and Maudie Marcet of Freeport, Texas; four grandchildren, Neely Cook, Hammond, La., Jonathan Ward, Lexington, Ky., Jessie Speegle, Dumas, Ark., and Jacob Penn, Pine Bluff, Ark.; two greatgrandchildren, Cloie and Gabby Cook both of Slidell, La.

GILLETT - Ala Sue Bauer, age 91, died August 20, 2009. She was born August 2, 1918 in Malvern, Ark., to Carl and Sue Wilcox. Mrs. Bauer was a graduate of University of Arkansas, homemaker, member of Gillett Garden Club, Dorcas Circle and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Bauer; parents, Carl and Sue Ala Wilcox; brother, Doyle Wilcox.

Survivors include children, Ann Nichols (Stu) of Charlotte, N.C., Phyllis Wittrock (Dave) of Livonia, Mich., Larry Bauer (Tante) of Gillett, Ark., and Dennis Bauer (Louise) of Bryant, Ark.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

POYEN - Elsie M. Jones, 89, of Poyen passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the HSC Medical Center. She was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Poyen, the daughter of David Bruce and Lillie Pearl (Roland) Walker. She was a homemaker, had been active in the Grant County Democratic Party, member of the Lindsey-Poyen Cemetery Board, and was a lifetime member of the Poyen Missionary Baptist where she taught the Willing Workers Sunday School for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Miller Jones, to whom she married Feb. 17, 1938, and preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1972; also two sisters and three brothers. Survivors: sons, Julian Miller Jones Jr. of Poyen, and Randy Jones and wife Linda of Benton; grandchildren, Deana Henningsen and husband Mark, Rhonda O'Neal and husband Bryan, all of Benton, Julian Miller Jones III and wife Renee of Denver, Colo., and David Riley Jones of Branson, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Keeliegh and Olivia O'Neal, Conner Henningsen, Madeleine and Julian Jones IV; and numerous nieces and nephews.

WARREN, Ind. - Jean Evelyn Plummer Sours, age 88, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Heritage Pointe (United Methodist Memorial Home), Warren, Ind., where she had been a resident for two years.

She was born Dec. 27, 1920, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of the late Floyd B. and Golden (Tillman) Plummer. She married David William Sours on Aug. 23, 1945. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1988.

She attended Missouri State Teacher's College in Springfield, Mo., and spent the majority of her adult life in Joplin where she was employed at several area businesses in office management. She was a devoted wife, mother and doting grandmother who enjoyed needlework and music.

She is survived by her children, Cathey Carter (Mike) of Marion, Ind., and Scott Sours; grandchildren, Ashli Mashburn (Ray) of Texarkana, Ark., Kevin Messick (Sandra) of Benton, Ark., Mary Shannon Messick (Paul Romanko) of Agawam, Mass., and Will Sours; two step-granddaughters, Sarah Lane (Stephen) and Emily Carter, both of Little Rock, Ark.; and three step-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating. Burial will be in Joplin, Mo., under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Ind. A Rosary Service will be held at 5:30 p.m.
