BOWLING 800 series sweetened by victory

— Benton's Greg Lang ran off games of 258, 290 and 258 for an 806 series in the Enterprise Lanes Thursday Doubles qualifying. The 806 was his fifth 800 series and the 290 his fourth 11 strikes-in-a-row that includes a 279.

"I left the 4-pin to start the 290 game, and finished with 30 of a possible 36 strikes," said Lang, an automotive technician. "Most of the strikes were pretty good and I took the ring. I want to thank Dirk Gibson for missing a 10-pin. I don't think we would have won otherwise."

Lang (260) and partner Marian James (172) beat Gibson (235) and Brittany Beneux (191) 485-468 in the final match.

Lang, 33, started bowling at 12 at Metro Bowl in Lansing, Mich., averaged 212, 215 and 217 last season, and used an EboniteRaid ball. He has one each 299 and 298 games.
