RECRUITING Pair of Coffeyville prospects interested in Arkansas

— Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College 19-0 on Saturday in a preseason scrimmage at Robertson Field.

The Red Ravens have sent players to Arkansas through the years, including such standouts as wide receiver Eddie "Boo" Williams and safety Randy Kelley, and more could be on the way this season.

Coffeyville defensive end Brandon Mosley, 6-5, 285 pounds, 4.85 seconds in the 40-yard dash, already has a scholarship offer from Arkansas, and another defensive lineman has said he is interested in the Razorbacks.

Former Jenks (Okla.) High School All-American Tony Gillespie, 6-1 1 /2, 310, 4.85, signed with Kansas State out of high school but wasn't academically eligible. The Wildcats placed Gillespie at Coffeyville, but the coaching staff that placed him is no longer in Manhattan, Kan., and Gillespie has reopened his recruiting.

Gillespie said he would love to hear from Arkansas and would certainly give the Razorbacks strong consideration if they offered a scholarship.

Mosley starts at defensive end, but he also lines up at tight end some. Arkansas, Arizona, Kansas, Kansas State, Tulsa and others have offered him as a tight end, and it appears Florida State is close to doing the same.

Mosely, a sophomore, said he was pleased with his performance in Saturday's scrimmage and is looking forward to next Saturday's season opener at Navarro (Texas) Junior College.

"It was fun," Mosley said. "I thought I did pretty good. I got a little winded today. We can be pretty good. We've got a lot of potential."

Mosley will have two years of eligibility left when his career at Coffeyville is done after this season. He said his recruitment is going well.

"I'm getting a lot more offers and more people showing attention," he said. "A lot more people want me at tight end."

Mosely also said he likes Arkansas.

"The offense they use has the tight end blocking, but they throw to him as well," he said. "I would like to take a visit there."

Mosley will have a chance to play high Division-I football on either offense or defense.

"At defensive end, I'm strong and I lost some weight, so I'm quicker," he said. "I'm a good run stopper. At tight end, I like blocking and I have good hands.

"The schools recruiting me at tight end is a plus for them. I red-shirted last season and played a lot of tight end in practice."

Mosley said he wants to go somewhere he can fit in.

"I want to go a school where it kind of reminds me of back home," said Mosely, who is from Jefferson, Ga., which is near Athens. "I want to get a good education.

"When I first got out here, it was important to go back close to home, but since I have been out here a year and half, it really doesn't matter anymore."

In addition to Mosley and Gillespie, Coffeyville also has former Muskogee, Okla., defensive lineman Robert Thomas, 6-2, 300, 5.0, who signed with Arkansas in February but failed to qualify academically.

Thomas is red-shirting this season.
