Fired Fort Smith officer gave names of undercover officers

— Fort Smith police documents say a probationary officer was fired for giving out the names and descriptions of undercover officers and confidential informants.

Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Ross was fired July 30 after joining the department on March 30.

The internal police documents were obtained by the Southwest Times Record under the state's Freedom of Information Act. They say detectives learned of the "compromise of sensitive information" from an informant who hesitated to provide information because of a leak within the department.

The documents say Ross told investigators he just liked to talk and brag about his job and didn't realize it was something he shouldn't do.
