Major exhibit on Egypt heads to Ark. Arts Center

The opening of the "World of the Pharaohs" exhibit at the Arkansas Arts Center is a month away.

The exhibit will include objects from a 3,000-year span of civilization in ancient Egypt. The museum held a news conference Monday to mark the date and to thank the exhibit's sponsors.

The 200-plus artifacts are from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and will be in Little Rock from Sept. 25 through July 5.

On display will be statues, sculptures, jewelry, funerary objects and mummies. They will reflect what life was like for kings and illustrate how people of lower stations made their way through life. The centerpiece will be a colossus of Ramses the Great.
