TEXAS LEAGUE: Torres shuts down Drillers

— Alexander Torres allowed 2 hits and struck out 8 in 6 innings as the Arkansas Travelers beat the Tulsa Drillers 6-0 on Tuesday at Drillers Stadium.

Torres (3-1) only allowed one runner to reach third before being replaced at the start of the seventh. Fernando Rodriguez and Bobby Cassevah worked the final three innings, giving up one hit combined.

Torres, a left-hander who was called up July 31 after going 10-3 for Class A Rancho Cucamonga, also was the winning pitcher in the Travelers' previous shutout victory Aug. 14, when they beat San Antonio 12-0.

Hank Conger went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI on Tuesday for the Travs, who had 13 hits.

Drillers starter Chaz Roe (7-3) allowed 11 hits and 4 runs, all earned, striking out 5 and walking 1.

The game was scoreless until the Travelers scored three runs in the top of the fourth. Mark Trumbo and Conger started the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out, Brian Walker hit an RBI single, and after Ivan Contreras walked, Peter Bourjos made it 3-0 with a two-run single.

The Travelers scored again in the fifth on Conger's double to right-center field. They added arun in the seventh on a Conger groundout and made it 6-0 in the ninth on a Ryan Mount single.
