Anniversaries

— Mr. and Mrs. Don E. Ghent will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday with a drop-in reception at their home. The couple were married Sept. 2, 1949. Mrs. Ghent, the former Martha Jean Smith, is a retired public school teacher. Ghent is retired president of East Camden and Highland Railroad. They are the parents of Bart Ghent of Lake Dallas, Texas, and Cindy Smith of Fairfax, Va. The couple have one grandchild.

TEXARKANA - Mr. and Mrs. William Garner will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple, formerly of North Little Rock, were married Aug. 31, 1949. Mrs. Garner, the former Edna Pitts, is a retired dental receptionist. Garner is a retired Southern Baptist minister. They are the parents of Bruce A. Garner and Curtis Garner, both of Texarkana, Texas; Cyndy Garner Haydon of Cabot; and Connie Garner Wall of Bivins, Texas. The couple have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CONWAY - Mr. and Mrs. M.B. "Bead" Griffith will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple were married Sept. 1, 1949. Mrs. Griffith is the former Wanda Kirkland. Griffith is a retired forklift driver. They are the parents of Jimmy Griffith of Wasilla, Alaska, and Judy Rowlett and Janie Powell, both of Conway. The couple have five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

LONOKE - Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Harris celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 21 at The Crooked Hook. The couple were married Aug. 20, 1949. Mrs. Harris is the former Annie M. Garringer. Harris retired from the timber industry. They are the parents of Barbara Stocks, Janice Staton and Woody Harris, all of Lonoke. The couple have five grandchildren.

PANGBURN - Mr. and Mrs. Jack Auten will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family. The couple were married Sept. 3, 1959. Mrs. Auten is the former Kathleen Kitts. Auten is a retired minister. They are the parents of Mike Auten of Clyde, Texas, and Rhonda Bailey of Knoxville, Tenn.

PINEVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whitfield will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple were married Sept. 5, 1959. Mrs. Whitfield, the former Joyce Tackett, retired as a teacher from Sylvan Hills Elementary School in Sherwood. Whitfield is a retired math teacher from Sylvan Hills High School. They are the parents of Scott Whitfield of Little Rock and Beth DuBose of Pineville. The couple have four grandchildren.

LONSDALE - Mr. and Mrs. Doug Hammonds will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Meadow View Church, Malvern. The couple were married Sept. 5, 1959. Mrs. Hammonds is the former Jane Matlock and retired from mortgage lending. Hammonds retired from Entergy and is a pastor at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Bauxite. They are the parents of Kim Morris of Madison, Miss., and Tim Hammonds of Lonsdale. The couple have five grandchildren.

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE - Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schaumburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April with a cruise. The couple were married Aug. 29, 1959. Mrs. Schaumburg is the former Beverly Niemann. Both retired as civilians from the Air Force. They are the parents of Michael Schaumburg of Portland, Tenn., and Mark Schaumburg of Hoopeston, Ill. The couple have 10 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Don K. Martin of North Little Rock will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple were married Aug. 30, 1959. Mrs. Martin, the former JoAnn Freeman, was a teacher. Martin is a retired MIS director of Health Care Systems. They are the parents of Lance Martin of Sherwood and Barry Martin of Kensington, Md. The couple have five grandchildren.

BENTON - Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Ford Jr. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a private family celebration last weekend. The couple married Aug. 21, 1959. Mrs. Ford is the former Sallie Marie Long. Ford is a retired school superintendent. They are the parents of Rod Ford of Little Rock, Mike Ford of Conway and Stacye Shelnut of Benton. They have eight grandchildren.

BENTON - Mr. and Mrs. John Butler will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple were married Sept. 3, 1959. Mrs. Butler, the former Peggy Ballard, is a retired teacher from Benton public schools. Butler retired as principal from Benton High School. They are the parents of Rachel Butler Gavini of Putnam, Conn., and Laura Butler of Benton. The couple have one grandchild.

WINTHROP - Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Frady will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 5 p.m. Saturday at the couple's home. The couple were married Aug. 22, 1959. Mrs. Frady is the former Barbara Klitz and owner of Barbara Frady Poultry Farms. Frady is a retired master sergeant from the Marine Corps and also retired from Red River Army Depot. They are the parents of Ramona Frady and Mary Cowan, both of Winthrop, Alice Frady of Foreman and John Frady of Metairie, La. The couple have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

SHERIDAN - Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Johnson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple were married Aug. 21, 1959. Mrs. Johnson is the former Phana Williams. They are the parents of Rick Johnson, Vicki Johnson Lunday and Nicki Johnson Lisenbey, all of Sheridan. The couple have five grandchildren.
