Representing financial interests contemplating the construction of a $1,000,000 waterpower electric plant to furnish light and power to Little Rock, Hot Springs and Pine Bluff, C. E. Hart of Joplin, Mo., an engineer, has been in the city for a week investigating the electrical needs of the three cities and making surveys of the site and lines. A careful investigation is being made of the possibilities of the stream which it is proposed to harness and of the probable sale that could be had of the current when manufactured.

The U. S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals' decision on Arkansas' Pupil Placement Laws will have a vital effect on the solution of the entire integration problem in Arkansas and particularly in the "most publicized" district, Little Rock. The Dollarway School Board, in making this statement, said that it feels the ultimate decision from the circuit court is so important it is prepared to delay the opening of school "to permit a final determination by the court." 25 YEARS AGO August 30, 1984

Arkansas State Police officers need a new $21 million radio system because the existing one is literally filled with holes in communication that pose a threat to lives, a top radio operator said Wednesday. Diane Carder, chief of communications for Troop A headquarters in Little Rock, said Wednesday that communications operators at the 12 state police districts across the state can't pick up radio transmissions from troopers in certain areas. Therefore, if an emergency occurs in one of those areas, troopers can't radio for help.

Acxiom Corp., fighting a falling stock price and competitive price pressures, said it will reduce its work force by 5 percent in mid-September. The Little Rock-based marketer of consumer databases said the reductions are an effort to wring more efficiency out of the company. The cuts will come from all parts of the company, including its Little Rock and Conway operations. "We're confident we'll continue to grow," said spokesman Dale Ingram. "But when you're growing this fast, it's time to step back and ask if we have the people and systems in place to continue growth."
