Splash Zone hosting second annual "Doggie Dip"

— Dog owners will have the chance for the their pets to take a swim at Jacksonville's Splash Zone pool and help raise funds for improvements at the city's dog park.

The second annual "Doggie Dip" in Jacksonville will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine.

Entry fee will be a $5 donation for each dog/owner and $1 for each additional human.

"For dogs who love the water, this is their day," said Dana Rozenski, Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department recreation coordinator.

Rozenski said Jacksonville Dog Park members are organizing and will staff theevent, which will also be manned by Splash Zone lifeguards, as well as a city animal control officer.

Pets available for adoption from The Jacksonville Animal Shelter will also be at the event.

"All the usual city ordinances regarding dogs will apply at the Doggie Dip," said Hedy Limke, Jacksonville Animal Shelter supervisor.

Soft drinks will be on sale for $1.50, but food items will not be sold or allowed.

Doggie Dip rules will be posted and are as follows:◊Dogs won't be allowed on play equipment.

◊Fetch toys and "floating" toys are permitted.

◊Dog owners will be responsible for cleaning up after their pets, and waste bags will be provided.

◊Dogs must be on leashes when not in the water. The main entrance to the Splash Zone will be closed, and attendees will be let in and out a side gate.

◊Dogs that don't play well with others may be asked to leave.

The dog swim will be the last event held during the summer pool before it is closed for the season.
