MILDRED ELIZABETH COATES, of Little Rock, passed away Aug. 28, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Olive Walter; as well as her sister, Sue Marie Reynolds; and her son, Larry William Morehart. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Sue Yarbrough; husband Jack; and their son, John. She is also survived by Edward Coates.

Mildred was the secretary at Life Unlimited church for the past 12 years. While at the church she spent her spare time helping the needy by handing out food and clothing through the church's Love Center. Mildred enjoyed traveling and was able to see most of the United States in doing so. She loved her family, especially her grandson, and also loved the members of Life Unlimited Church as though they were her family.

• OPAL BENNETT DAVIDSON, 92, of Sherwood passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sidney Bennett and Ed Davidson.

She is survived by her son, David Bennett and his wife, Barbara of Maumelle; and her daughter, Nannette Bennett Maris of Little Rock. She had three grandchildren, Guy Maris IV, Ashley Maris Travis and Sheri Bennett Davenport; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a charter member of Park Hill Baptist Church, Betty Harp Class and LLL. She was a member of ABWA and Chosen Twelve Sewing Club. Her career was in women's fashions and before retirement she was a buyer for Deane's Fashions and Sarah's in North Little Rock.

The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Scott Harrington and the staff of Elmcroft of Maumelle.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. (501-791-7400), with Dr. Bob Harper officiating. • MARION LOUESE HOLODY, 86, of Little Rock, passed away Aug. 28, 2009. Born Jan. 7, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark., to Alvin Luther Colbert Sr. and Lula Mae Gentry Colbert. She was a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Matthew Holody; daughter, Nancy Holyfield of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Matthew Rodieck of Afghanistan, Michael Rodieck of Memphis, Tenn., Meredith Wood (Richard) of Carmel, Calif., and Melissa Mannix (Bob) of Monterey, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Alise, Jonathan and Olivia Wood of Monterey, Calif.; brother, Don Colbert (Donna). Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Al Colbert Jr.; and sister, Doris Dum.

Rosary services will be held Tuesday, 7 p.m., Sept. 1, 2009, at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church, 1003 N. Tyler Street, Little Rock, Ark., 72205. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the church with Father Royce Thomas officiating.

• LYNDA S. JESTER, 64, of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009. Born Aug. 6, 1945, in Dermott, Ark., to Lynwood and Mildred Mc-Cone, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant grandson, Connor Daniels. She was raised in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from high school in 1963. Lynda graduated from Baptist School of Nursing and received her B.A. degree from St. Francis College in Illinois. She was a Registered Nurse, retired from the UAMS Outpatient Clinic after 34 years of service and was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock.

Lynda is survived by her husband, Gary Jester; daughter and son-inlaw, Kim and John Berrey of Tulsa, Okla.; and daughter, Stacy Howell and her fiancee, Kenny Daniels of Joplin, Mo.; grandchildren, Lane and Jack Berrey of Tulsa; brothers, Harvey McCone and wife, Sharon of McLean, Va., and Craig McCone and wife, Carolyn of Little Rock.

• BOBBIE P. RENDA, 78, of Little Rock, passed away Aug. 28, 2009.

Born Jan. 6, 1931, in Bauxite, Ark., to Robert A. Prather and Zell A. Anderson Prather. She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, American Red Cross and the Senior Club of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Brown Sr., of Little Rock, Ark; daughter, Elaine Renda of Little Rock, Ark.; son, Ben Renda of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Cassie Renda of Wichita, Kan., Chelsea Seely of Junction City, Kan., Dakota and Blake Brown of Sardis, Ark.; step-daughter, Darla Sibert, and step-son Robert Brown Jr., both of Sardis, Ark.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at 7 p.m. with Rosary services following at 7:30 p.m. at St. Theresa's Church, 6221 Base Line Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72209. • WILLIAM HOWARD "BILLY" RIDDLE, 74, of Little Rock, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009. He was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Kirby, Ark., to the late Welton and Edythe Riddle. A graduate of Mabelvale High School, Billy attended Monticello College.

He served in the Air National Guard for 19 years. An avid Razorback fan, he was on the Razorback chain crew at War Memorial Stadium for over 40 years. He loved family activities centered around the water, such as camping at Daisy State Park, water skiing, and fishing. He always owned a boat and taught all the family members to water ski. Billy's favorite place to fish was the Little Missouri River. He was a member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church. A devoted father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aleta Faye Riddle; and sister, Billie Jeanette Riddle. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Moore and husband John, and Pam Brandon and husband Ronnie; one sister, Kay Porter and husband Buddy; four grandchildren, Amber Cates and husband Drew, Billy Moore, Lauren Brandon and Anna Moore; one great-grandson, Caden Cates; and 11 nieces and nephews.

• Reverend NORRIS STEELE, 82, of Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009. He served as a Merchant Marine during World War II prior to serving 43 years in the United Methodist Ministry. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Allidel Steele Whitwell.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Davidson Steele; his children, Reverend Bill Steele and wife Mary, Reverend David Steele and wife Diane, Reverend Rodney Steele and wife Becky; son-in-law John Whitwell; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dulcia Smith.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Henderson United Methodist Church, 13000 W. Base Line Road, Little Rock, Ark., 72210. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

• BRINKLEY - Wyona Belle Johnson, 82, wife of the late C.L. Johnson, of Brinkley passed from this earth on Saturday Aug. 29, 2009 in Little Rock. Wyona is survived by her four sons and their wives, Charles and Sharon, Michael and Toni, Gerald and Debbie, and Dale and Cheryl. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Jesse, George and Harold Lacy; and sisters, Elizabeth Almond, Dorothy Traylor and Carol Ward.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Brinkley, and mostly recently, of Parkway Place Baptist Church in Little Rock.

Wyona's life was invested in her sons, their families and in the children of the church.

• HAMPTON - B.L. Avant, 73, of Hampton, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009. Mr. Avant was born in Hampton, Ark. on Jan. 28, 1936 to the late Blount Lester and Virginia Ables Avant. He was a retired owner/ operator of a gravel business, and a member of the Trinity Chapel Church in Hampton.

• MONTICELLO - Mary White Causey, 76, of Monticello, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born Oct. 15, 1932 in Drew County.

She was the widow of Malcolm W. "Jack" Causey, a homemaker and a member of Lacey Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Christian White and Berniece Verlee O'Neal White and was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Junior White and Levi White; two sisters, Iva Merle Scogin and Bethel Wallis; one grandson, Jacob Alexander Causey; and one granddaughter, Jaicee Danielle Causey.

Survivors include one son, John Causey, and wife, Lisa, of Monticello; one daughter, Carrie DuPriest, and husband, Mike, of Little Rock; one brother, Wayne White, and wife, Reva, of Lacey; one sister, Willie Mae Willis of Greenville, Miss.; and three granddaughters, Aimee DuPriest, Ashlee DuPriest and Gabrielle Causey.

• MORRILTON - James Edwards Applewhite, 78, of Morrilton, Ark., passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.

• MORRILTON - Eula Bell Galloway Baker, 93, of Morrilton passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009. She was born May 21, 1916 in Saulsbury, Tenn., a daughter of William Galloway and Amanda Gatewood Galloway. She was the widow of Buster Baker, a homemaker, and member of Morrilton Downtown Church of Christ.

She is survived by her sons, Don Baker (Dannie May) of Texas, Bill Baker of Birmingham, Ala., and Jim Baker of Morrilton; daughter, Connie Herbert (Aaron) of Morrilton; brother, Cleo Galloway of Saulsbury, Tenn.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

• PINE BLUFF - Bilijon Matlock Seaton, 78, of Pine Bluff, died Aug. 29, 2009 in Little Rock. Born March 28, 1931 in Pine Bluff to Andrew K. and Marie Wilson Matlock, she was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff. She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Bilijon married Gordon E. Seaton in Pine Bluff on Dec. 27, 1952 and the couple spent most of their married life in Pine Bluff. She worked as a second grade teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School for 14 years.

She was a member of First Christian Church, the John McAlmont Chapter of the Daughters of the DAR, and was a charter member of the Searcy (Ark.) Junior Auxiliary while residing there.

Survivors include her husband; two sons (and daughters-in-law), Andrew "Drew" Seaton (Cindy) of Pine Bluff, and Lee Seaton (Tonya) of Fayetteville, Ark.; one brother, Andy Norwin Matlock of Dumas, Ark.; and four grandchildren, Andrea Seaton and Ellen Seaton of Little Rock, Drew Seaton and Matt Seaton of Fayetteville.

Graveside services are Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m. in Graceland Cemetery with Reverend Joseph Garkovich officiating, directed by Ralph Robinson & Son.

• REDFIELD - Norma Sams Patterson, 60, of Redfield, passed away Aug. 28, 2009. She was born Jan. 21, 1949 in Caruthersville, Mo. to the late Jack and Jewell Mann Sams. She attended Caruthersville Schools. She had worked at Merico Bakery in Little Rock.

• ROLAND - Betty Jane Yarbrough, age 76, of Roland, Ark. died Saturday, Aug. 29th, 2009. She was born in Vilonia, Ark. on April 13th, 1933 to the late Loyd Jessie and Lottie Vanderhoof Bostic. She was preceded in death by parents, her brother: James Loyd Bostic and her grandson: Shannon Max Yarbrough.

Betty had attended the Liberty School System and graduated from Vilonia High School. Pursuing a career in Cosmetology she was a graduate of the Paducah School of Cosmetology in Paducah, Kentucky earning her cosmetology license that led to a long career until her retirement in 1999. She has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1953, received her Arkansas Instructors License in 1973, and has been an Electrolysis Instructor since 1974. Betty served as President of the Arkansas Hairdressers Cosmetology Association (AHCA) from 1984-1988 and was an Officer of the Arkansas School Owners Association in 1986. In 1978 she became a member of the Arkansas Hair Fashion Committee and in 1984 was appointed to the Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology, by Governor Bill Clinton, serving for 15 years until she retired in 1999. She was also a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Ferndale.

Betty was owner and operator of Bee Jay's Hairstyling Academy which opened in 1973 and moved to its present location on Hinson Loop Rd in 1977. In 1991 Betty opened a second location in historical downtown Batesville, Ark.

Survivors include her three children, Denny M. Yarbrough and wife Lynda of Little Rock, Jane Powell and husband Richard of Ferndale, and Terry Yarbrough of Roland; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Sears, Stephen Barnett, Melissa Barnett and Trey Powell; great-grandchildren, Max Barnett, Kayla Ann Sears, and Hunter Wade Sears; by her sisters, Mary O'Neal and husband Bill of Hot Springs, Patricia Walloch of Little Rock; her brothers, Jimmy Bostic and wife Betty of North Little Rock and Jessie Bostic and wife Debbie of Mayflower. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

• WARREN - Mary Frances Trotter Wheeler, age 81, of Warren, Ark. died Saturday Aug. 29, at Bradley County Medical Center. Born March 2, 1928 at Hermitage, Ark.. a daughter of the late Calvin Trotter and Bessie Jones Trotter she was a former part time librarian at the Hermitage Library, homemaker, member Hickory Springs Associate Reform Presbyterian Church, and the widow of Richard Wheeler who died March 9, 1981. They were united in marriage July 3, 1946. Also, preceding her in death was a brother, Gene Trotter; and sister, Doris Poore.

Survivors are two daughters, Sarah Hughes, Brenda Quimby and spouse Hugh Allen all of Warren, Ark.; one sister, Ruth Howsen, Broken Arrow, Okla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

NORWOOD, Mo. - PFC Jonathan Yanney, 20, Norwood, Mo., died Aug. 18 in military action in Afghanistan. Services will be held at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, Little Rock, Ark. Burial will be in the Veterans National Cemetery, Little Rock, Ark.

Jonathan was born June 3, 1989, in California. He went to school in Norwood. He loved to play baseball and fish with his Grandpa Kuhn.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Kuhn Yanney, Norwood; and his father, Russ Yanney; and his good friend, Beverly, Little Rock; his brother, Josh; Norwood; his grandparents, Catherine and John Kuhn, Bismarck; and Jannice Powell, Mountain View, Mo.; his great-grandmother, Perkins, Mountain View; and his aunts and uncles, John and Mary Yanney, Virginia Williams, Rod and Carla Kuhn, Bismarck; and John and Patty Tschida, Bismarck.

• QUITMAN, Texas - Allen Maurice Clifford at the age of 71 went to be with the Lord on Aug. 28, 2009. He died at his home in Quitman, Texas after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in June 25, 1938, in Bedford, Ky. Allen was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Kay Clifford; and his grandson, Christopher Earl Fuller. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan Clifford of Quitman, Texas; his sons James Clifford, Gary Clifford, and David Clifford of Lexington, Texas, Steven Hotary, and Scott Hotary of North Little Rock, Ark.; his daughters, Renee Hotary of Quitman, Texas, Denise Curtis of Maumelle, Ark., Sandra Lay of Lexington, Texas, and Shannon Pilawski of Tampa, Fla. He leaves 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann Jackson of Brooks, Ky.; his mother-in-law, Anne Miranda of Vilonia, Ark.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Tom Hankins of Quitman, Texas, and Sandra and Butch Linder of Vilonia, Ark. Also his aunt and uncle Hazel and Alvie Penix of Louisville, Ky.; his aunt, June Bevins of Evansville, Ind.; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 2-5 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.

Allen was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite of Little Rock, Ark., and Eastern Star member of Jewell Chapter OES in Levy, Ark. Allen was loving, cheerful and ornery.
