BOWLING: Rylant tops Quinn in rematch, wins ASBT title

— Richie Rylant of Dallas won his second Arkansas Scratch Bowlers Tour title, defeating Sean Quinn of Guntown, Miss., in the finals of match play 227-218, and in the title game, 246-193.

This gives Rylant a first-, second- and third-place finish for the three stops this season.

Rylant had victories over Chris Cranford of Longview,Texas, 276-266; Jared Studnar of Mountain Home, 224-209; Tyler Corbin of Cornith, Miss., 259-209; and in the finals of the winners bracket, he lost to Quinn 223-209.

In the finals of the losers bracket, Rylant defeated Corbin 224-217 to set up the re-match with Quinn.

Quinn had victories over Robb Helt of Fort Smith, 248-198, Mowrey, 299-194, and Dewayne Thompson of Fort Smith, 224-200, before facing Rylant in the finals of the winners bracket.

The high qualifier was Mike Mowrey at plus-274 with a block of 300, 201, 259 299 and 215. The 300 was good for $100 from Kurt’s Pro Shop.

Mowrey won against Steve Botter of Hot Springs, 226-146, then lost to Quinn, 299-194.

Mowrey then defeated Cordell Wilder of Nacogdoches, Texas, 243-190, and Cranford, 258-235, before losing to Corbin, 213-198.

For Mowrey, it was his 25th 300 game and sixth 299 game. He has won five ASBT titles, has an 848 high, one 298 game, and six 11-strikes in a row awards, including a 296.

Rylant banked $1,000; Quinn, $550; Corbin $450; J.P. Tijerina of Garland, Texas, $350; Mowrey and Thompson, $300 each; Matt Wells of Pocahontas, and Cranford, $200 each; Steve Botter of Hot Springs, Studnar, Brian Kramer of New Albany, Miss., and Wilder, $125 each; Helt, Brian Gray of Springfield, Mo., Tony Yarbrough of Rogersville, Mo., and Mike Burroughs of Hot Springs, $110 each.

High noncash senior was Tim Dooley of Fort Smith, at plus 1,051, and he won $50.

COLLINS SOLID

Haskell’s Scott Collins ran off games of 246, 224 and 299, his second 299, and a 770 series in the 10 Pin Mixed League at Enterprise Lanes.

“They were really solid shots, though I left the 10-pin the last ball,” said Collins, a concrete finisher. “I used a Lane Master ball and average 220 and 223.”

Collins, 29, started bowling at 17 at Enterprise. He has an 833, five 300 games, three 298s, one 290, and a 793 high.

TWO 900 SERIES

Two more 900 series hit the boards recently, the first by Chis Aker of Winnemucca, Nev., and the second by Andrew Teall of Medford,N.J., as they became the 13th and 14th bowlers to roll 900 approved series..

The two 900s came within three days of each other and were the first since Rich Jerome Jr. of Baltimore had a 900 on Feb. 2, 2008.

Aker, 47, a left-hander, had 36 strikes in the Friday Night Mixers League at Spare Time Bowling Center.

Teall, 24, a right-hander, matched that in the Monday Invitational League at Medford Lanes.

Aker had seven 300 games and an 825 before the 900.Teall had five 300s and an 813 high.

DIS ’N DATA

Felicia Burlison with 268-692 and 224, 246-686 and Joy Henthorne with 278-693 received the Arkansas State Women’s Bowling Association 250 and 650 awards. Allyson McFarland with 236,238-658 in Benton’s Finest Ladies, Cindy Covert with 245-660, and Rachel Perez with 247-696 received the 650 award in the Thursday Men’s. Shelly Collins with 248-654 earned the 650 award in the 10 Pin Mixed at Enterprise Lanes.

Tracy Abbott with 276-657 and Burlison with 258-668 received both awards. Diane Dailey with 246, 234-658 and Rachel Perez with 234, 226-650 took the 650 award in the Millennium Mixed. Abbott with 254-659 earned both awards, and Stephanie Eubanks with 233, 232-678 received the 650 award in the Roosevelt Mixed.
