A television reporter has been hired to direct the new communications office for the state House of Representatives.
House Speaker Robbie Wills announced Friday that Amanda Manatt will be communications officer for the state House. An on-air general assignment reporter for KATV, Manatt starts Dec. 21 and will be paid $45,000 annually in the new post.
Wills in September fired the House’s information director and hired a Little Rock public relations firm to set up a new communications office. Craig Douglass Communications was to be paid $5,000 a month through that contract.
Wills had defended the move to set up a communications office after some House Republicans said they were concerned the Democrat was trying to politicize the House information office.

Amanda Manatt will be paid $45,000 per year. Craig Douglass Communications was to be paid $60,000 per year ($5,000 per month). Do I sense some disparagement here? How many people would have been involved in the Craig Douglass Communications issue? Don't get me wrong - I am pleased that Amanda Manatt is being hired. I only ask why the $15,000 per year difference in compensation.
