— The incessant rain falling in much of the state this week shattered the 127-year-old record for the wettest year in Arkansas.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, Little Rock has seen 79.13 inches of rain in 2009. That tops the 1882 record of 75.54 inches. The 2009 rain total will grow once the National Weather Service adds the rain totals from Thursday.

As of Thursday afternoon, the rain had yet to cease. Temperatures were expected to keep falling, and there was a possibility of snow in some areas later in the night.
