Rain causes floods, closures, power failures

— Large amounts of moderate to heavy rain have fallen across central and eastern Arkansas since late Wednesday, the National Weather Service said Thursday morning.

Flash flood warnings and watches have been issued across most of the state, along with a tornado watch for Union County. The National Weather Service expects excessive runoff to cause flooding of several rivers and streams in Arkansas.

The National Weather Service has also issued a winter storm warning through Friday morning for northern and western areas of the state. Snow accumulations are expected to be 2- to 4-inches with larger amounts in the higher terrain of western Arkansas.

Entergy is reporting 54 power failures throughout the state Thursday morning with 9,714 customers affected, many of them in Montgomery County. Entergy serves 6,602 customers in Montgomery County and 6,429 of them were without power Thursday.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation department is reporting the following roads closed due to high water:

  • Pulaski County, Highway 67/167, between Jacksonville and Cabot
  • Pulaski County, Highway 100, between I-430 and I-40
  • Pulaski County, I-30 south of Little Rock
  • Pulaski County, Highway 5
  • Pulaski County, Highway 338 from Stagecoach Road to I-30
  • Clark County, Highway 51, Ouachita River Bridge
  • Clark County, Highway 128, from Junction Highway 7 to Highway 51
  • Hempstead County, Highway 32, from Dean to the Nevada County line
  • Hempstead County, Highway 32-S, from Hope to Bodcaw
  • Jackson County, Highway 18 from Newport to Grubbs
  • Lonoke County, Highway 67/167
  • Prairie County, Highway 33
  • White County, Highway 87, from Junction Highway 11 to the end of State Maintenance
  • White County, Highway 323, south of West Point from Junction Highway 36 to Junction Highway 11
  • White County, Highway 11, from Highway 367 to the county line
