Deputy wrestles shotgun away from man

— A Lonoke man was jailed this morning after struggling with a sheriff's deputy who was trying to take away a shotgun he was loading, authorities said.

Jared W. Leach, 19, was booked into the Lonoke County Detention Facility on preliminary charges of battery against a law enforcement officer, domestic battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Bond has not been set.

Lonoke County Deputy Paul McIntosh was dispatched about 6:30 a.m. to a residence on Sydney Place to investigate a report that an individual there had taken numerous pills, according to a news release.

Leach reportedly ran inside as McIntosh pulled up. He was located in a bedroom a short time later with the shotgun, the release said.

McIntosh wrestled the weapon away from Leach and then placed him in custody after a brief struggle, Lt. James Kulesa said. Neither person was hurt.

Leach was also wanted in Pulaski County on warrants for criminal mischief and careless driving.
