Steel-tubing maker lays off 275 more in state

— Steel-tubing manufacturer Tenaris Hickman, the largest employer in Mississippi County, says it has laid off 275 more workers.

Company spokesman Kevin Butler told the Blytheville Courier News that its plant near Armorel would be shut down for two weeks beginning Monday. Butler says Tenaris Hickman plans on reopening its plant Feb. 23.

Butler blamed "the current economic situation" for the layoffs and temporary closure.

The company had a little more than 1,000 workers before the recent layoff announcement. In December, the company cut about 150 workers from its plant.
