87th General Assembly convenes
The legislative session opened with the swearing in of House Speaker Robbie Wills.
LITTLE ROCK Representatives Bill Abernathy, Steve Harrelson, John Lowery, Bill Sample and Robert Moore will serve as chairmen of high-profile House committees this legislative session.
House Speaker Robbie Wills, D-Conway, announced the appointments during the House's opening session Monday.
Abernathy, D-Mena, will serve as chairman of the House Education Committee, while Harrelson, D-Texarkana, will lead the Judiciary Committee. Lowery, D-El Dorado, will serve as chairman of the Revenue Committee, while Sample, R-Hot Springs, was tapped to lead the House Transportation Committee.
Moore, D-Arkansas City, will serve as chairman for the Rules Committee - the committee that will hear proposals to establish a lottery and scholarship program in Arkansas.
