Backyard fireworks are more popular than ever in Arkansas this holiday weekend.
Because of the sinking economy, thousands of Arkansans are staying home for the Fourth of July. The American Pyrotechnics Association says that as a result, interest in backyard fireworks is high.
Fireworks sales tents have dotted the streets of Arkansas selling fireworks in the past few days. Sales have been brisk, and for first year vendor Kim Cruse that means money in the bank.
Cruse says that after hearing she could make a couple thousand dollars in just 10 days of work, she jumped at the chance.
Just down the road, Alvin Riley says he makes about 20 percent in commission and so far this year, sales have been at least as good as last year.
