Oaklawn Foundation Awards $160K in scholarships

— The Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship Committee presented $160,000 in college scholarships May 13 to 40 Garland County students for the 2009-2010 academic school year.

"The Oaklawn Foundations' Scholarship Committee worked diligently to select these worthy recipients," committee chairwoman Kerry Lockwood Owen said. "Some are traditional students attending four-year universities, some are students attending two-year colleges, and some are single parents who are working their way through school while supporting their families. But every one of them is committed to having a better life through continuing education."

The 40 scholarship recipients and their colleges are: Lisa Alexander, University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR); Angela Bates, Henderson State University (HSU); Jennifer Bradley, National Park Community College (NPCC); Heather Brinkley, Arkansas Tech; Madeline Bull, HSU; Kimberly Burks, NPCC; Ranee Davis, University of Central Arkansas (UCA); Kristen Dobbs, HSU; Jacqueline Dowling, UALR; Gwendel Ellis, NPCC; Margaret Ferguson, UALR; Jacob Flores, NPCC; Katee Foster, NPCC; DeWanna Franklin, HSU; Dewayne Franklin Jr., HSU; Ulonda Frazier, University of Arkansas (U of A); Cory French, Hot Springs Rehabilitation; Becky Fugate, U of A; John Goff, HSU; Ethan Godwin, NPCC; Molly Gray, U of A; Collien Green, NPCC; Kathryn Haagenson, Arkansas State University; Regina Hale, NPCC; Sheri Hand, HSU; Linh Hoang, UALR; Ashley Kincannon, NPCC; Stacy Llewellyn, NPCC; Ashley Lock, Arkansas Tech; Martee Loughren, NPCC ; K atey Luenemann, NPCC; Edward Picking, Harding University; Melony Ritter, UALR; Jelena Stojakovic, UCA; Kyla Vincent, HSU; Jeffery Wacaster, Ouachita Baptist University; Laura Wahl, NPCC; Brittany Walker, HSU; Shelly Willams, NPCC.

The committee received more than 273 applications for the scholarships, which were authorized by the Oaklawn Foundation's Board of Trustees in March.

Since December 2007 the Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship Committee has awarded $372,000 in scholarships to Garland County residents.
