LITTLE ROCK Recent DVD releases:
Confessions of a Shopaholic (PG, 112 minutes) A potentially smart movie about a quirky young woman, Confessions unfortunately gets turned into pratfall-filled situation comedy. It's about stylish Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher), whose passion for fashion causes her financial woes. She gets a job, strangely enough, writing about how to save money for a struggling financial magazine. But what she really wants to do is work for its sister publication, New York's high-fashion Alette. Bonus features include bloopers, deleted scenes and a music video. The Blu-ray has even more bonus features, including a making-of featurette. Grade: 74
The Pink Panther 2 (PG, 92 minutes) The best thing about this DVD/Blu-ray release of a mediocre comedy that again stars Steve Martin as inept French police inspector Jacques Clouseau is that it includes a bonus disc with 27 Pink Panther cartoons. There's also a gag reel and behind-thescenes featurettes.
Grade: 74
Waltz With Bashir (R, 90 minutes) Waltz With Bashir could be described as an animated autobiographical documentary, a subjective excavation into an intensely personal mystery that teases out troubling truths about the human capacity for cruelty and self-deception. Filmmaker Ari Folman, an Israeli veteran of the First Lebanon War, encounters an old friend who still has nightmares of the conflict. Ari wonders why his memories are full of gaps. In an effort to uncover the truth, he dares to confront the horrors of war. Blu-ray and DVD bonuses include an English language version of the film, a making-of featurette, and commentary by director Folman.
Grade: 90
