As Tom Courtway ends his tenure as the University of Central Arkansas' interim president, one unresolved issue is his effort to rewrite a major donor's 10-year contract for the Dixie Band Camp Inc.

Making the issue more complex - or "political" as one UCA official put it - is that the donor is Robin Nix, a past member of the nonprofit UCA Foundation board and a former interim vice president for institutional advancement at UCA. Courtway fired Nix in December.

Less than three months after the firing and after UCA's board of trustees named Nix to a committee searching for a new university president, Courtway asked Nix to renegotiate the contract for the summer band camp for youth. Among other things, Courtway wanted to cut the contract's length in half.
