ENTERTAINMENT NOTES

— Pine Bluff center exhibits fabric art

Quilts, painted silk shawls, "art clothing" and mixed-media pieces by mother and daughter in-law artists Alice and Vanessa McCallum go on display Friday in an exhibit called "Quilts and Textiles" at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., Pine Bluff.

The exhibit will remain on display through August.

The center will hold a reception at 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Conway concert features 3 finalists

Three high school musicians - a strings player, a brass player and a woodwind player - who emerge from the day-long University of Central Arkansas/ Conway Symphony Orchestra High School Concerto Competition will perform in a public concert at 3 p.m. Saturday in the recital hall of Snow Fine Arts Building at UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

Eleven high school students from Conway, Van Buren, Stuttgart, Dardanelle, North Little Rock, Little Rock, Brinkley and Fort Smith have entered the competition.

The event is the second competition co-sponsored by UCA and Conway Symphony.

Each of the three divisional winners will win a $350 prize; the overall winner will receive the "Phillip Gullic Award," worth an additional $500, donated by Kim and Phillip Gullic of Conway.

Judges are UCA faculty members Kelly Johnson, principal clarinet for the Conway and Arkansas Symphony orchestras;violinist Linda Hsu, Conway Symphony concertmaster; and Denis Winter, principal trombone for Conway Symphony and a member of the Arkansas Symphony.
