— Harding University’s McNair Scholars Program director and professor of psychology, Linda Thompson, co-authored an article with Karen Patty-Graham, president of the National Association for Developmental Education, that was published in the U.K. online journal Face to Face sponsored by the Forum for Access and Continuing Education.

Thompson is a former president of NADE and is on its Certification Council. She started four learning support programs at Harding and presents workshops nationally. She was named a Fellow of the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations. She is also a past president of the Arkansas Association for Developmental Education.

Thompson and Patty-Graham’s article featured in the autumn edition of the online journal presented a brief history of developmental education in the U.S. and outlined the initiatives NADE is implementing to further developmental education and the benefits it creates. The article was written after the decision of the United Kingdom’s FACE program and NADE in the United States to begin collaborating together in their goal of improving the availability of higher education.

“[The article’s] importance is mainly in making our colleagues in the U.K. aware of NADE and our efforts to improve access and success for all college students in the U.S. by promoting standards of best practice in the field and encouraging rigorous assessment and evaluation of programs to inform their own practice,” Thompson said.
