A man wielding a knife was killed Tuesday afternoon after Little Rock officers opened fire, believing him to be a threat.

The incident took place at 5915 Carlyle Drive in southwest LIttle Rock.

According to reports, Landris Hawkins, 28, was brandishing a knife and wouldn't let his grandmother out of the house when the shooting occurred. He had reportedly cut himself and his grandmother.

Police said Hawkins, who lived in the home with his grandmother, had a history of mental illness.

Officers arriving at the scene believed Hawkins to be a threat. Two officers then fired shots at the man.
