— The National Park Service says Hot Springs residents will see smoke rising from North Mountain in the middle of the city, but they shouldn’t be concerned.

The park service says it will conduct prescribed burns of forest land on the mountain on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Prescribed burns are used to reduce forest-fire fuel on the ground, such as fallen branches, and to reduce competition from saplings that might hinder growth of the standing trees.
