Democrats advance hotly contested climate bill

By The Associated Press

This article was published November 5, 2009 at 8:56 a.m.

— Democrats have ignored a Republican boycott and pushed a climate bill through a key committee by a 10 to 1 vote.

Committee Chairman Barbara Boxer had delayed the crucial vote for days because of a Republican protest over whether the cost of the legislation had been fully examined. But Boxer moved quickly to pass the bill without the help any of the seven GOP senators in the room. No amendments were considered.

The bill by the California Democrat and Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts will now be merged with legislation being written by five other Senate panels. The bill calls for cutting greenhouse gases from power plants and factories by 83 percent by 2050.

Climate Change just a Tax and Grab Ploy by the Government
1. The Premise for Cap and Trade is a falsehood, if anything the planet is cooling and man's contribution to "climate change" is zero. Look at geologic history for the last 500,000 years, can't they read or think?
2. It will have a devastating impact on the U.S. Economy
3. It is a job killer in the U.S. and will rush more jobs off shore
4. Other Industrialized Nations and Major Developing Economies don’t buy into the premise, China, India, Germany and Italy to name a few are building coal electric power plants today and more tomorrow.
5. Represents excessive Costs to the American Taxpayer in increased taxes and cost of living.
6. The U.S. needs to develop our natual resources to become foreign energy independent and then develop a rational logical plan for energy transition for the future, not this shotgun wasteful approach the Congress is pursueing.
