Take a closer look before writing and publishing an article of character assignation. Many may not be a fan of Bernie Cox, but his record at LR Central is one that most coaches would love to possess. Although the football program has been in a slump the past few years, the demonstration of class still exists. Whether up or down, LR Central’s football program is one that coaches around the state respect and never take lightly. Without being a part of the program, NO ONE can speak on the current internals of the program. Lets all take a closer look at the big picture before tainting the legacy of Coach Cox. Let’s look at the emergent of the many private schools. Many have great facilities and CLAIM to have strong academics. Their success in athletics over the past few years, have drawn the attention of the city’s best athletes. No need to hate, but congratulate. So, congratulations to the private schools on their success. Now, let’s look at (Triple C) parents and fans Complaining with a lack of Contribution and Commitment. That attitude is passed down to the players and becomes cancer to any program. It should be easy to contribute a ride to not only your child, but the player that lives two house down, or on the next street. A $20 contribution will feed not only your child, but three to four players. Then there is a contribution of cheers and encouragement needed on and off the field and in the classroom. Those types of contributions will produce an increase in work ethics, practice attendance, and an over-all positive attitude. Finally, let’s look at the lack of speed, strength, and talent. It’s hard for parents to accept that their child is not as talented as others. Why is that Bernie's faught? Speed, strength, and talent can be developed, but it may take two or three 0-10 seasons. Not every player that plays football is a football player. It's easier to blame Bernie than is to accept the truth about parents and players. Bernie Cox should feel proud to in the company with Joe Paterno and Bobbie Bowden. Those are two other legendary coaches that people seems to think the game has passed by. People say, "they won all those championships because they had talent." Duh! That was my final point!
