Nothing is prettier than a field of daffodils blowing in the breeze or a bed of bright red tulips, writes Janet Carson in Saturday's Homestyle section.

These spring-blooming bulbs are one of the easiest ways to dot your landscape with color. The rainy autumn has delayed putting many plants into the ground. Yet don't fret — there is still time.

Spring-blooming bulbs can be planted from October through December, even into January if you pre-chill them. They need 12 to 16 weeks of cool temperatures (below 50 degrees) for them to stretch and elongate.
