Verizon’s smart phone employs Google’s Android operating system

In one corner is Apple’s iPhone. Launched in 2007, it revolutionized the smartphone market with its sleek exterior and a collection of applications that seems to grow more extensive by the day.
Challenging it is Verizon’s Motorola Droid phone, launched Friday. Powered by Google’s Android operating system, it is a “third generation,” or 3G, wireless device aimed at giving the iPhone a run for its money.
Like the iPhone, the Droid has touch-screen access, though the Droid boasts a larger screen with higher resolution, an actual keyboard, as well as features such as turnby-turn navigation, which is free from Google but only available for a fee on other smart phones.
