Cops, docs and lawyers - TV’s three perennial pools for prime-time drama never seem to dry up.

Genre popularity goes in cycles, however. And these days it’s the medical shows on the rise.

It’s true that the docs still have a ways to go to displace the cops. Police procedurals are by far still the most prolific.

With NCIS and its Los Angeles spinoff, three versions of CSI, Saving Grace, The Closer and all the incarnations of Law & Order, watching law enforcement in action is still TV’s top draw.
