— As part of its Your Health Matters educational seminar series, St. Joseph’s Mercy Health System will host Helping Families Navigate Dementia and Alzheimer’s at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ of the Hills Church, 700 Balearic Road, in Hot Springs Village.

Dr. Richard Wyderski, a board-certified internal and geriatric medicine physician member of the The Hospitalist Service team at St. Joseph’s Mercy, will conduct the free information and education seminar that is scheduled to last approximately one hour. Wyderski plans to take questions at the conclusion of the seminar.

“The potential for positive outcomes exists if families have the proper tools for coping with Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementias,” Wyderski said. “During the seminar, I plan to describe the critical points in the disease process and highlight interventions to support family members in their roles as caregivers. At the conclusion of the seminar, my hope is that the attendees will be able to describe the critical points for families in the course of dementia, as well as the interventions that allow family members to better care for themselves while caring for a loved one.”

Wyderski, who in 1982 secured a bachelor of science degree from the University of Dayton, joined The Hospitalist Service at St. Joseph’s Mercy last summer after spending 11 years as both the Continuing Medical Education Chair for Miami Valley Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine for the Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He earned hismedical degree in 1986 from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio, followed by an internal medicine residency in 1989 and fellowship in 1990 at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Wyderski also secured a Master of Medical Management degree in 2002 from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business in Los Angeles, Calif.
