“There must be no endings!” —Donald Harington January 26, 1991 A STATE isn’t just a geographical designation. It’s a shared language and history. And how it perceives itself. That perception requires someone to shape it. For many of us, Donald Harington, the art professor at Fayetteville, was that someone. That was his great service to his native state and particularly the part of it he deeply absorbed as a Little Rock boy who spent the summers in the Ozarks. His novels form a core consciousness of the Arkansan, whatever that strange hybrid creature is.

"Harington is not in any sense an 'Arkansan,' and can't stand to hear that word, although he's a native of Little Rock and has lived in the state for most of his life. Yet he always has seen himself, and with deep passion, as a genuine 'Arkansawyer.'" --

I know this won't change anything at your paper, but it just struck me as disrepectful to use a term he loathed to describe him.
