Victims set to testify at Alamo’s sentencing

LITTLE ROCK — Several of the child “wives” that helped convict evangelist Tony Alamo of federal sex charges will be on hand to testify at his sentencing hearing.
The 75-year-old leader of the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries will appear in court Friday in Texarkana. A jury convicted Alamo in July on a 10-count indictment accusing him of taking underage girls across state lines for sex. He faces up to 175 years in prison. Each count also carries possible fines of $250,000.
Prosecutors have said three of the women Alamo “married” at ages as young as 8 will offer victim statements. Defense lawyers for Alamo have offered letters from followers and a doctor who says the evangelist is in such poor health that he’s a “walking time bomb.”
