— Arkansas home sales in September jumped 10 percent over the corresponding month a year ago, the Arkansas Realtors Association said Monday.

The spike mirrored a nationwide jump attributed to an expiring tax credit for first-time homebuyers, and it was just the second month-over-month increase seen in Arkansas in nearly four years.

Meanwhile, the 2,300 homes sold during September charted a 5 percent average-price decline.

The industry is hoping that a recent extension of the tax-credit, which was to expire Nov. 30 but has been modified and extended through the spring, will keep sales up.
