Former Conway extension agent running for state representative

— Retired Conway County Extension Agent Tommy Thompson of Morrilton announced he will seek the position of State Representative for District 60 in Conway and Perry counties. This position is held by Johnny Hoyt, who has announced he will not seek re-election but will run for state Senate.

Thompson, 61, a Democrat, was raised in Cabot. After highschool, he attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and Master of Education degree in adult education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He also held a license as a certified residential appraiser for many years until he retired. He works as an agriculture consultant with Agri Co-op Supply in Morrilton and Perryville.

A Baptist, involved with civic groups, conservation groups and active in Conway County and the River Valley until he retired from the University of Arkansas, he decided to make Conway County his home. He is married to the former Diane Forbes of Sherwood, and they have between them three daughters, three son-in-laws and six grandchildren.
