With tonight’s critical Senate vote looming, all eyes focused Friday on Sen. Blanche Lincoln, who remained silent on whether she will vote with her party to begin a historic debate on sweeping healthcare legislation.
Arkansas’ senior senator did her best to stay out ofthe public eye, refusing all requests for interviews. She did not hold her weekly conference call Thursday with reporters.
The only hint Lincoln has offered came Thursday when she issued a statement, noting that Senate leaders had met her request for the bill to be publicly available online 72 hours before any vote is taken. The senator’s staff said she, too, is reading the bill.
“This is another step in the long task we have ...

Reading the bill for 72 hours will not hide the fact that this will increase your tases for 4 years before it ever offers any of the 'benefits' for anyone.
Sen Lincoln knows that with her '72' reading she could not have even digested the crap that is in this bill. Like the fact that it will increase medicaid spending on each and every taxpayer because of the government mandates. This will fall on you the AR taxpayer, not to mention the loss of jobs.
Read it all for 72 hours then watch her vote 'no' on a non important vote.
The one that matters is tonight.
Ever wonder why they vote on Saturday? So you the 'little people' can't contact their office.
Sign up for her e-letter. It is the only way she will let you know when she will be back in Ark.
Pay for 4 years of taxes, then have a 'benefit'. How many of you would pay a mortgage for 4 years before you could move in?
Sen Lincoln just sold you a house you can't move in, just pay for.
Thanks!

Yes I guess you could say Ms Lincoln is between a rock and a hard spot. Trying to decide which gives her the best chance of being reelected. standing with party leaders or standing for Arkansas. This is an important vote that she will cast this evening, not only for Arkansas but the Nation. It will decide most likely if we or to continue as democratic Republic or become a socialist country. If the bill is advanced, then the party leadership will get it passed. I have read enough to know my taxes will go up my benefits will go down my medical cost will increase which I believe will be the case for most Arkansans. So Senator Lincoln Vote No this evening for sake of Arkansas and the nation not your reelection.

Now that the Obama administration has paid off Landrieu, and today it comes out that Blanche Lincoln has pledged a vote to this abominable bill, we have to wonder how much Lincoln got paid for the vote. Most likely, another $100,000,000.00 of the taxpayers money. Gone into an Arkansas State payoff or Lincolns personal bank account.

I had to read a local newspaper to get why Arkansas is so backwards when it comes health care and various other issues that effect this country. I live in LA and we just don't understand you people. How would people who need health care the most and need their rates lowered fight the hardest. You all make less money then most people.
Duh, you wonder why you aren't getting a raise, it goes for your health care cost increase. It just doesn't make sense to be fighting for insurance companies.
You people talk about socialize medicine, you do even know what socialize medicine is. Just like you don't know about defending the constitution. Give me a break.
This vocal defense for the status quo could only be about two things either you guys are putting a racial mask on this(John McCain winning by 20 points with Sarah Palin as VP and black making upwards 25-30% of the vote. How many white people voted for him 15) or people from Arkansas are DUMB. Because who in their right mind would be defending a system where companies are able to charge what ever they want to and drop you for no reason. They need to have a strong government option to put these a--holes in their place.
So let that woman vote to stop a filibuster and she can vote no to the bill with the state opt out, but let us the rest of the country alone because we are tired of hearing the crying.

Lincoln had a chance to make history and kill the Bill. There was no hope that Senator Pryor would listen to the people, he remains in hiding. Now both will be history!!

stevefromla – your comments are inappropriate regarding Arkansas, and the attacking nature is consistent with those who hold your views. Those who hold your views represent themselves to be enlightened when the reality is they are wrapped in the darkness of a failed philosophy of life.
The issue is not that healthcare in the US needs to improve. Everyone agrees that it does. The issue is that the government should not be put in charge of our healthcare. It will be a disaster. One of the lies that we are being sold is that compassion, empathy and an improved healthcare system can only come through government control. Multiple foreign countries and Maine are good examples of government run healthcare failures.
So, before you promote the already proven failed and half baked ideas that government control over our healthcare is the answer to extend compassion, empathy and healthcare please educate yourself on the real facts and the history of the failed philosophy that you are promoting.
America is the most compassionate and giving nation in the world. America is great not because it guarantees social services to people, but because it extends freedom and the opportunity to rise above mediocrity. The poor in America have a level of living and healthcare that is much better than the majority of the world. It can be made better. Putting the government in control is not the answer. Putting the government in control is a recipe for disaster.
By the way, Arkansas is in much better shape than California. California can’t pay for anything because it is broke. This is a result of your failed philosophy. Arkansas is one of a handful of states who have lower unemployment and a state surplus. You are either ignorant of that fact or your bias makes it hard for you to objectively look at the facts. Just so you know, Arkansas doesn’t want to have to pay to bail California out of its financial mess. We would prefer to improve Arkansas.
All that said to say… why don’t you fix California’s problems instead of attacking Arkansas.

lol, previous poster got it right. We can see that the definition of rich (those who the current thieves in congress intend to soak with increased taxes)is anyone who works for a living. So rather than seeing more in our paychecks, we'll be seeing more tax being withheld. We're not as backward and stupid as you think. And, as previous poster pointed out, your philosophy has failed everywhere it's been implemented. Personally, I don't want any of California's ious, nor to share their debt.

First point: Lincoln needs to update her resume because I am going to do my part at the polls next year to make her unemployed. Point #2: I clearly cannot speak for all Arkansans but most of us do not need anyone from the third world, pot smoking, bankrupt, illegal alien sanctuary state of Kalifornia passing judgment on us. Enough said.

Some of us still remember Ms. Lincoln's tying vote on the rediculous AWB in '94.It's no surprise that she would again vote lockstep with her party and advance this bill.
No doubt there is much room for improvement in our health care system. Another govt.run program is NOT the answer.
Anyone care to cite one single govt. run program that operates at the proposed cost or with any efficiency?
Let's not forget that that our jr. senator Pryor also voted yes to this bill. Berry and Snyder on the House side too.

It is simply ludicrous that someone from LA would try to tell any other group of people from any other state what to do or insinuate that those who do not vote like Californians are somehow backward. California can not stand on its own, and LA is one of the worst. Arkansans take care of their own, but Californians cry to the government any time there is a problem caused by their own actions. You people are so worried about Freddie Frog and foliage that your homes burn several times a year. You do not have sense enough to cut some of the trees that border your homes, and we get to help pay for your stupidity. That is only one example of your ignorance. Go fix your own problems. You have plenty, but too many of you Calif. idiots just sit around and preach and talk and become liberal-minded professors. You don't DO anything. The rest of the country considers California to be a country unto itself. I have to go now. Those of us that live in Arkansas still go to work.

How many of the folks opposed to the healthcare bill have actually read the bill that is currently before the Senate? I for one am glad that Senator Lincoln is taking the time to read the bill, to understand the bill and then determine how to vote on the bill. I don't know how she will vote on the bill, but at least she is going to make an intelligent and informed decision on an issue that affects all Arkansans. There is so much disinformation about the bill "from government taking over healthcare, to government paid abortions to panels deciding who lives and dies," that I am not sure the general public understands the fundamental problems with healthcare today much less the bill under consideration. The reality is our healthcare system is broken. The American Medical Association and the AARP have both come out supporting the bill and both are traditionally conservative groups. I hope that we can avoid partisian attacks, from both sides, and work together to fix the problem. The idea of not doing anything is not an option. Mighty proud to be an American and god bless Senator Lincoln as she makes a difficult decision!

arkie - AMA is extremely liberal FYI.
Blanche needs to understand that we all agree TRUE REFORM is necessary. However, forcing insurance companies to take pre-existing condition customers is forcing them to make up those loses elswhere to maintain any viable business model. Does the government tell you that you have to take a client that you know is going to force you to lose 100K+.... My dad currently has pancreatic cancer, IF he was uninsured, this bill would force any insurance company that he chooses to take him with his "pre-existing" condidtion. (loss of 250K+ by the time he dies) Not a good investment for them. People - there are NO patients in America that go without medical treatment when they are sick. MEDICAID already exists and can be applied for retroactive. Show me 1 single person that can't get healthcare when they need it in America. No hospital or doctor will refuse to care for the sick. (or they would lose their medicare provider status)
