BOWLING: Chaser catches first 300 game

— Jake Carper, 18, of Benton knocked out his first 300 game in the Thursday Men’s League at Enterprise Lanes in Benton. He closed with games of 245 and 221 for a 766 series.

“I didn’t realize I had a chance at a 300 until the ninth frame. Then I got nervous. Martin Pledger told me to stay sturdy and finish strong,” Carper said. “It was all I could do to get to the line my last ball. It was very nerve-racking.”

Carper, the pin chaser at Enterprise, started bowling there at 14 and bettered a 289 game. He averages 220 and has a 772 high.

Little Rock’s Danny Fuller shot his 23rd 300 game to start play in the Big 10 League at Enterprise. He followed with games of 244 and 247 for a 790 series.

“I had 19 strikes in a row to start,” Fuller said.

He has 10 800 series with 854 high, five 299s, four 298s, 11 11-strikes-in-a-row awards, including seven 290s, and four 279s.

Fuller, 55, is the chemistry stock room manager at Hendrix College. He started bowling at 10 at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.

BIG DAY IN BIG 10

Also at Enterprise in the Big 10 League, Mike Anderson started the night with his ninth 300 game and closed with games of 195 and 206 for a 701 series.

“The first eight strikes the 300 were good hits, then I pulled the ninth ball, and the rest were good,” Anderson said. “I’m taking the ring.”

Anderson, 44, of Alexander, a salesman for Frito Lay, started bowling at 13 at Professor Bowl South.

He has two 800 series with 827 high, three 299 games and five 11-strikes-in-a-row awards.

SIXTH 300 FOR LANG

Benton’s Greg Lang sandwiched his sixth 300 game between games of 223 and 222 for a 745 series in the 10 Pin Mixed at Enterprise.

“The 11th ball carried Brooklyn and I think I only carried two solid shots, just a little lucky,” Lang said.Lang, 34, a supervisor over a burntable, started bowling at 12 at Metro Bowl in Lansing, Mich. He used a Hammer Black Widow Bite ball for the 300, an Ebonite Magic for the 298.

He has five 800 series with 815 high and one 299 game.

The official standings for the top five in each division of the Women’s USBC Senior tournament held at Millennium Bowl have been released.

11TH 299 FOR PRIDMORE

Jacksonville’s Ralph Pridmore kicked off the Monday Mixed League at Allfam Bowling Center in Cabot with his 11th 299. He added games of 262 and 178 for a 739 series.

“I left the 7-pin the last ball of the 299,” said Pridmore, retired from Union Pacific.

Pridmore has four 800 series with 848 high, 12 300 games, two 298s, and 11 11-strikes-in-a-row awards, including a 297.

Pridmore, 61, started bowling at 15 at Hilltop Lanes in Jacksonville, used a Columbia Bedlam ball and averages 218 and 224.

Rose Curry with 258-654 in the Coffebreak received the Arkansas State Women’s Bowling Association 250 and 650 awards, and Shannon Barbee with 242-656 the 650 award in the Saline Strikers; Debbie Uekman with 279-673; and Marian James with 279-677 both awards, and Rachel Perez with 233-665 the 650 award in the Thursday Men’s at Enterprise Lanes.
