Fulton County fair exhibitors win Best of Show at state fair

— Fulton County fair exhibitors won four Best of Show awards in the Creative Arts Department at the Arkansas State Fair held Oct. 9-18 in Little Rock. Exhibits at the state fair are placed first, second and third place in the open divisions and first through 10th place in the junior and youth divisions. Exhibits are not judged on their own merit as they are on the county and district level.

The three adult Best of Show winners were Luanne Stone, art - watercolor; Lucille Wermes, handicrafts - Swedish weaving; and Beverly Reeves, knitting. Reeves also won the sweepstakes knitting award.

Brooklyn Abney won a Best of Show award in the youth food preservation division for her tomatoes and okra exhibit.

Other state fair winners were Kenzie Hart, Ally Lewis and Grace Phillips, first place in youth art (age 6-12 years); Cole Young and Audry Cox, second place; Kelsey Abney, first place in youth creative writing, third place Abby Brindley, fourth place Hannah Brindley and eighth place Lexie Hurtt.

In the junior art division (age 13-18), winners were Mario Marrero, second place, and Michael Carter, sixth place. Amber Taylor won second place in creative writing. In junior sculpture, Tate Harris won first place with a metal sculpture, and Amber Taylor won second place with a clay sculpture.

In adult art, first-place winners were Glenda McCulloughand Louanne Stone, and Glenda McCullough also won fourth place. Tim Hurtt won first place in creative writing. Linda Knapp also exhibited in the art department.

Katelyn Perryman won first place and fifth place in the youth handicraft division. Zachery Parker won second place in the junior handicraft division. Winners in the adult division of handicrafts were Luanne Stone, first place; Laura Ennis, second place; and Eric Willis, third place. Other exhibitors in the handicraft department were Luanne Stone, Wanda Nelson, Beverly Reeves, Imogene Crawford and Jodie Rogers.

In youth photography, Lane Hall, Lynnsey Foster and Madeline Newman placed fourth, and Kelsey Abney won fifth place. Elizabeth Wilden placed fourth on two photos, and Mary McIntyre placed fifth in the junior division of photography. In the adult division of photography, Jamie Foster won first place and Carolyn Lewis and Karen Langthorne each received second place. Other Fulton County exhibitors in photography were Nicole Foster, Dixie Harris, Noble Lewis, Esther Anderson and Amanda Zimmer.

In the youth food preservation division in pickles and relishes, Brooklyn Abney placed second and Halle Abney placed fourth. In jams and jellies, Breanna Walker placed second. In vegetables, River Galbraith placed third and in dried foods, Emma Phillips placed third and GracePhillips placed sixth. Thomas Collins won second place in pickles and relishes in the junior division of food preservation, and Amber Taylor placed fourth in the fruit category. Scott Roberts won first place in vegetables and Kathy Goodwin won second place in the fruit category in the adult division of food preservation. Other exhibitors in food preservation were Diana Wilson, Douglas Jones, Margaret Marrero and Gail Plumlee.

Ashley Hall won first place for her pillowcase in the youth division of needlework. Perri Huett placed second with her cross-stitch ornament; Brooklyn Moffitt won second on her quilt; Brooklyn Abney placedthird and Kelsey Abney placed fourth on their aprons. Amber Taylor won first in crochet, and Courtney Smith placed fifth for her pillowcase in the junior division of needlework. Adult needlework winners were Beverly Reeves, first place in knitted clothing accessories; Georgia Bell, first place in crochet doiles; Esther Eldried, second place in embroidery; Marion McGuire, second place in crochet afghans; and Margaret Michaels, second place in knitted afghans. Other exhibitors in the needlework department were Wanda Nelson, Kathy Antus, Mary Brunk, Opal Willis, Erin Fitzgerald, Shirley Black, Marilyn Hines and Carol Durham.
