Pike County Hospital in Murfreesboro says it has voluntarily suspended operations until Jan. 8 while a medical staff is recruited.

Checks that bounced after being written to doctors who had been on the hospital staff also complicate the hospital’s situation,

The temporary shutdown puts about 50 people out of work at the hospital, which opened in 1958.

Chief Executive Officer Robert Hicks, 61, of Oklahoma City and administrator Arthur Clyde Benson Jr., 63, of Richardson, Texas, face felony charges filed Nov. 16 that accuse them of writing hot checks. The checks were written from the hospital’s account to Dr. George Gray of Little Rock.
