Mayor Yvonne Dockery of Garland City has entered a guilty plea to a theft charge, and agreed to resign her post.

Dockery was sentenced Friday to two years’ probation in an appearance before Miller County Circuit Judge Kirk Johnson at Texarkana.

The theft charge accused Dockery of illegally receiving pay greater than the salary authorized by the City Council.

Prosecutor Brent Haltom said that the plea agreement negotiated by Dockery’s attorney, Lott Rolfe of Little Rock, calls for Dockery to submit a formal resignation in the next few days.

“One of our main goals was to get her out of office,” Haltom said. “Everyone is glad she agreed to plead guilty and pay the money back.”
